Food Safety

Ensure you are complying with all aspects of food safety and hygiene within your pub

Ready to eat foods

It is important to handle these types of foods safely to protect them from harmful bacteria.

  • Check delivery of chilled and frozen ready to eat foods to ensure they have been kept cold enough, the use by date has not past and the packaging is not damaged.
  • Keep ready to eat food separate from raw meat, poultry and eggs.
  • Use clean chopping boards, knives and utensils.
  • Keep ready to eat foods covered.
  • Follow manufacturers instructions on storing and preparing ready to eat foods.
  • Peel trim or remove outer parts of vegetables and salad ingredients.
  • Wash them thoroughly in clean (drinking water quality) water.
  • Store ready to eat foods in the fridge.
  • Your actions:

    1. Keep a log of events if things go wrong, what did you do?

    2. Consider changing to a new supplier if you are not happy with your current suppliers standards of hygiene.

    3. Review the way you receive deliveries.

    4. Review the way you store and prepare foods.

    5. Train your team.
