With limited kitchen resources the food team helped me to make the most of what we have. We now deliver a menu confidently which caters for most tastes. The customers keep coming back for more.

"very happy with the coffee machine, nice and simple to use, coffee always very good" - the Food Team assisted Wayne with the purchase and fitting of a new coffee machine making quality coffee an integral part of the pub offering

"We have had a complete refurbishment throughout the pub, we have knocked a wall down in the old kitchen and had all new kitchen equipment fitted. Sam helped design the kitchen with us and moved everything around. She picked all the equipment for us from Lockhart and we are really happy with it. Sam has been a big help – she said to take out the pool table and make the space into an eating area as we would make more money on food than pool. We didn’t want to do that as it was a village pub, but now we are doing so well with food we have taken the pool table out – we should have listened to Sam from the beginning because she was right. Sam really liked our menu and food and mentioned our prices were too cheap, so we are now reviewing our prices."

"Really good and enjoying it. My assessor is really friendly, down to earth and makes me feel comfortable. It's very convenient, you don't have to go to college, you get your folder and they give you homework. And at the end of it I get an NVQ which is very useful to have." - started NVQ Food & Drink Service 8th Feb 08
Lisa Dunstan, Bar Staff, The Albermarle
"We first had a call from VT Training to see if we were interested in doing NVQ's and they just fitted around us and the business. They watched me doing tasks when it suited us, such as doing the beer delivery at 9am on Monday morning, or cleaning the pipes at the time when we normally do it. When I did my exams, I did not have to sit in a big exam room and we did not have to find someone to cover my shift; they brought a laptop into the pub for me to do it there - and I passed with flying colours." - achieved NVQ Food & Drink Service 25 Jan 08
Thomas Caen, Bar Staff, The Bunch of Grapes
"I have just had my first meeting and its going very well. My assessor is very helpful and informative; he has helped to update my CV and given me my homework which will be good to keep me busy on a quiet shift." - started 27 Feb 08 – NVQ Food & Drink Service
Amanda Harrison, Staff, The Stanley Arms
"things are going extremly well we couldn't have dreamed it would take off so well so soon. Since opening for food on the 28/04 I think the least amount of meals done in the evening is 15, most nights its 20+ and at weekends its fully booked, the first Sunday lunch was ok about 25 meals but last Sunday it was 34. From the first Friday to the following Friday I think Karen took about £900 on food which was brill, I think its due to the fact that everything is homemade and at a reasonable price for a village pub. I don't think that the pool table will be coming back, well definitely not during the summer." - the Food Team helped to plan the kitchen in a capex and gave advice on the menu and costings
Liz Jones, The Waterloo

Damien, Licensee, The County Bar, Chesterfield
The food team have shown me that you can start food without high labour and wastage costs. I have been delighted with the help that I received to start food in my pub and with the help of the food team this has been much easier than I thought. I have no need to worry about costings and quantities as this is all calculated for me and such a varied selection of items to offer to customers. I had been thinking for some time to start meals but had always avoided it as I always thought it was too much trouble but have been won over!
Dennis, Landlord
“The quality of food from Ovenfeast is amazing for the minimal effort in preparation required. All in the all the Admiral Food Team has been an absolute god send; we wouldn’t have been able to produce food at a profit without their help.”
